The Traveler

A traveler comes to a fork in the road which leads to two different villages. In one village the people always tell lies, and in the other village the people always tell the truth. The traveler needs to meet someone in the village where everyone tells the truth.

A man from one of the villages is standing in the middle of the fork, but there is no indication of which village he is from. The traveler approaches the man and asks him one question. From the villager’s answer, he knows which road to follow. What did the traveler ask?

View Answer
The traveler asked “Which road goes to your village?”. He could then take the road the villager pointed to because a truthful person would point toward the truthful village, and the liar would also point to the truthful village since he is a liar and would not point to his own village.

Where am I?

I was camping when I decided to go on a short hike. I hiked south for 1 mile. Then I turned east and hiked for 1 mile. Finally I turned north and hiked for 1 last mile. When I got back to my campsite, there was a bear in front of my tent. What color was the bear?

View Answer
The bear was white because it was a polar bear. The only place on Earth you can walk 1 mile south, then 1 mile east and 1 mile north and wind up at the same spot is the North Pole. The only bears there are polar bears.

Deadly Punch

A woman went to a party and had a drink from a punch bowl full of fruit punch and ice. She was in a hurry so she drank her punch and quickly left the party. Everyone else at the party who drank the punch died from poisoning later that night but the woman survived. Why did the woman live?

View Answer
The poison was in the ice.  The woman drank her punch so fast that the ice did not have a chance to melt.
